The pile dwellings were "rediscovered" 150 years ago: in winter 1853/1854 the water level of the Swiss lakes was exceptionally low. In many places people tried to take advantage of the hour and to expand port facilities or to gain land from the lake. During such work, 30 km under the lake floor, miles away from Lake Zurich, you encountered rotten piles, bones, ceramics and objects made of stone, wood and bronze.
