The park was donated to the municipality in 1927 by Johannes Pellens, a landowner, so that more "action" could take place in the area. This is also where the sports facilities, which are now looked after and maintained by SG Marßel, came from. In the meantime, more modern sports have of course moved in here.

I grew up in Marßel and even knew the "Villa Marßel", which was demolished in 1976 and was originally built by Pellens for his wife and later became known as a tourist restaurant.

The park is now seen by most visitors as an area for sports and games rather than as a park for walking and enjoying peace and quiet.
