Set upon the site of an earlier sixth-century monastery, built by St David, the patron saint of Wales, the cathedral has been a site of pilgrimage and worship for more than 800 years. Construction of the present cathedral began around 1180. Today, there is lots to learn and discover here, all in a serene and spiritual setting. It is free to enter. A beautiful Cathedral right in the centre of St David’s... this is what gives St David’s it’s city status, albeit being the smallest city in the UK! It’s a lovely place to walk around and there is a stream running through with benches to sit and admire the scenery.
