Mörtefors is home to a large hydroelectric power plant. The 13.5-meter waterfall in a nearly 100-meter-long wooden slide gives the turbine a power output of 166 kW. This allows the power plant to produce enough electricity in one day to meet the annual consumption of an entire household.

Electricity was introduced in Mörtefors as early as 1894 through its own power plant. Both the furniture factory and the residential buildings were supplied with electric light. August Bohman designed the generator. Karl Bohman later commissioned the construction of a larger local power plant in 1904, which utilized the beginning of a longer watercourse by diverting the water into the aforementioned wooden flume. The wooden power plant burned down in 1956. A new brick power plant was built on the same site, connected to the dam by a 70-meter-long wooden inlet pipe.
