The observation tower is located on Lygumų Hill, on the site of a former wooden triangulation tower. The plateau surrounded by three lakes reaches an altitude of 186 meters above sea level, so from here, a 15-meter metal tower installed in 2013 opens up the lake-filled landscape of Aukštaitija.
After climbing the observation tower, Lake Kretuonas, which is located on the southwest side, can be seen like the palm of your hand. It is the largest and, together with Vajuonis, the oldest lake in the national park, and the island on which it is located is a true bird paradise. In addition to other lakes, the forests and swamps surrounding them, you can also see the homesteads of former old villages. An alley of old trees growing at the foot of the hill marks the site of a manor that once stood here.
On February 16, 1988, in the tower that stood here during the Soviet era, The organist of the Reškutėnai Church, Edvardas Martinkėnas, raised the tricolor, but the militiamen who came to remove it were frightened by the tower in a state of disrepair and turned around and left. Thus, the tricolor, which had been flying on the tower for two years, also survived the Declaration of Independence.
A geodetic mark was installed on the site of the old demolished wooden structure, marked by a buried concrete column.
