The "Diekskiel" memorial is dedicated to the generations of dike workers who, with great effort, helped secure the coast. The memorial was unveiled on July 17, 1973, by the Krummhörn Dike Authority as the first memorial to dike workers. The idea of erecting a memorial to dike workers on the site originated with the distinguished senior dike and floodplain judge Jannes Ohling.
