In 1969, a section of the so-called "Roman Road," the ancient road leading toward Virunum am Zollfeld, north of Velden am Wörthersee, was investigated and recorded. The route runs from Villach via Kaltschach, Sand, Kantnig, Weinzierl, Fahrendorf, Kranzlhofen, and Göriach to the area of the southern Forstsee lake, and from there continues to the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee, which is reached east of Unterwinklern. On this section, retaining walls, pavement, a bridge pier, and track grooves carved into the rock in places with a track width of 93.5 cm were identified and partially exposed.
