KCL Campground is free of charge, has a couple of shade trees, about ten sites with picnic tables, and is the only place that usually has a working water tap in the entire Carrizo Plain National Monument. No guarantee, but during tourist season it seems groundwater is pumped up to a tank on a hill and gravity-fed to a small standpipe spigot in the rear left area of the campground, not easy to see. A sign warns about nitrate content, and you should probably filter or boil/treat it before drinking.
