The ring wall took its course from the Schlossberghöhe to the tower at the Heberplatzl, on to the tower in the Stadtpark, then to the round tower on the Friedrichallee to the Leobnertor (today Dr.-Theodor-Körner-Straße), on to the inner Schiffertor at the end of the Schiffgasse and to the Schiffländ on the Mur, along the Schiffländ (Mur) towards the east to the Grazertor near the Grazerbrücke. It continued to the tower at the confluence of the Mürz and the Mur to the Wienertor at the eastern end of the city and from there, reinforced by two towers, the steep Schlossberghang up to Schlossberghöhe. The main gates: Leobnertor, Grazertor, Wienertor burnt down during the great fire in 1792. The Leobnertor was replaced by a simple archway, which was removed in 1876. The Grazertor was rebuilt in 1794, demolished in 1839. The Wienertor was rebuilt, finally demolished in 1846. This gate was called in 1544 and later also "Mürztor". Smaller gates were: ship gate (end Schiffgasse), eroded in 1888, Lend or water gate (completion of the moat on the Schiffländ), Badtor (completion Hauptplatz, Ringelschmiedgasse, Schiffländ), Lederertörl at the bottom of the Lederergassels (Roseggerstraße-Schiffländ connection).
