The Horaj Forest is not only a place of rest for tourists and nature lovers, but also an important historical point. Every year, ceremonies are held here to commemorate the Battle of Oleszyce in September 1939. In this battle, soldiers of the 21st Mountain Infantry Division under the command of General Józef Kustroń resisted the German troops. General Kustroń, who personally led the fight, died in this battle, and today his heroism is commemorated by a monument located in the Horaj Forest.
