Above the lake is the forest area "Hasseln". It belongs to the core area of the Müritz National Park. Fish and sea eagles hunt on the lake, while on the edge of the Hasseln the Ansitz offers a chance to observe mammals on a wide meadow area.
Today's Steinmühle is home to a school home. Here young people get to know the nature of the national park.
