Rowlesburg is a charming small town right along the Cheat River, with a rich history linked to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Civil War. Incorporated in 1858 and named after railroad engineer Thomas Rowles, it played a key role in defending against Confederate forces during the 1863 Jones–Imboden Raid. The Downtown Rowlesburg Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, it's a popular hub for outdoor activities, including whitewater rafting, fishing, and hiking. With a general store, restaurants, and lodging right by the river, it’s an ideal spot to resupply, take a break or stay overnight during a long hike.
