Burkes Beach is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches for miles around. It is located on Hilton Head Island, a vacation island in southern South Carolina. It attracts many visitors, especially in the summer, when the island's population rises from just under 38,000 to as many as 150,000. It is named after William Hilton, who described the headland on an exploratory voyage in 1663.
