Hopperstad Stave Church is considered one of the oldest in Norway, it was probably built around 1130.
The stave churches are Norway's special contribution to World Heritage. Other European countries also had similar churches, but they are only preserved in Norway. Of the original at least 1000 churches, 28 are still standing.
