The Offa Spring on the Schlei is a spring steeped in history and legend near Schleswig on the Schlei (Schleswig-Holstein). It is named after the Anglo-Saxon King Offa, who plays a significant role in Norse and English tradition.

Location & Significance

Location: The spring is located in the Haddebyer Noor, near the Danevirke and Haithabu (historic Viking sites).
Legendary Connection: According to legend, King Offa (from the 4th or 5th century) fought a battle against the Danes here. Another version says that he sealed a peace treaty at this spring.
Archaeological Significance: The region around the Schlei was an important trading center for the Vikings, and the spring may have had cultic significance.
