The small mountain church on the road between Höhn and Brüx is popular. From the small plateau you can see the Thuringian Forest.

On July 25, 1909, the foundation stone was laid next to an existing cemetery. The opening ceremony was held just one year later, on October 30, 1910.

It was to be the last church to be built in the then Duchy of Coburg. His Royal Highness, Duke Carl-Eduard of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha, and Her Royal Highness, Duchess Viktoria Adelheid, were present at this ceremony.

It wasn't until 1912 that Mönchröden became an independent parish, which was looked after by only three pastors in the 90 years.

In the course of independence, the four mountain villages of Brüx, Höhn, Rüttmannsdorf and Weimersdorf were also taken over as responsibilities. Only through the political territorial reform (May 1, 1978) did the Bergdorf districts of Neustadt become.

A thorough renovation was carried out in 1959/60. Above all, the sanctuary was changed. A large wooden crucifix by the Munich sculptor Traxler is now an eye-catcher for visitors.

In the times of the Iron Curtain, a tradition with national significance had developed in this church. Until 1990 there was always the Thuringian Mette on Christmas Day, a sign of solidarity in the Word of God and in prayer with people across the border. In the Advent season, a star shone across the restricted area. It became a symbol of hope. Today on Ascension Day Christians from Thuringia (Effelder) always come to a church service in the mountain church.
