Philip and Anne who run the cafe/accommodation are great. The roast their own coffee and it taste great. Simple accommodation, clean and tidy. Stop for a visit, or a stay, or a coffee, or explore the caves. A relaxed and pleasant sojourn.

The first time I discovered Nikau Cave Cafe I was exploring the back roads of the Waikato and wishing I had packed a thermos of coffee. Seeing a 'Cafe' sign in the middle of nowhere was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. The coffee and food really 'hit the spot', and the friendly owners and staff have made it a destination that I have returned to numerous times over subsequent years.

Phillip and Anne run an amazingly welcoming operation. The cafe is in a stunning natural setting - a natural amphitheater. The food and especially coffee is excellent. They have some accommodation available. Make prior arrangements to stay a night or two. Staying overnight gives you the opportunity to have an amazing caving experience in the Nikau Cave-a kilometre long passage through both very tight and open galleries festooned with glow worms and rock formations. It’s a cave in its natural state. Be prepared for wading in streams and crawling through tight passages.
