In the distance Almere. From the year 1881 a steam tram ran from Amsterdam to Muiderberg and grew into a popular seaside resort. The beach on the edge of the village is still there. At that time you could paddle in the salt water of the Zuiderzee. After the construction of the Afsluitdijk in the year 1932, the Zuiderzee became the IJsselmeer and due to the supply of river water the salt water became fresh within a few years.
