The Taxa Monastery is a former monastery of the Augustinian hermits. The monastery, consecrated to Maria Stern, was founded in 1654. In the Baroque period, Taxa was an important Marian pilgrimage site. The monastery was dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization, the monks were driven out overnight, and the church and monastery were immediately demolished against the fierce resistance of the population. For the Enlightenment figures around Montgelas, it was a hotbed of superstition, and an example was made here.
