The construction of this temple was a masterpiece. The "Miracle of the Sun" is particularly fascinating. 65 meters inside the temple, the sun god Ra, Rames II, and the imperial god Amun are illuminated by the sun at sunrise on February 22 and October 22, while Ptah, the god of darkness, remains in shadow the entire time.

Nestled on the western bank of Lake Nasser in Upper Egypt, near the modern-day border with Sudan, lies the extraordinary archaeological site of Abu Simbel. This location was carefully chosen in ancient times, carved into a sandstone cliff overlooking the Nile River, a vital artery of Egyptian civilization.

The two most prominent structures are the Great Temple, dedicated to Ramses II and the principal gods Amun-Re, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, and the smaller temple dedicated to his beloved wife, Queen Nefertari, and the goddess Hathor.

The remarkable aspect of Abu Simbel's present location is that it is not its original site. In the 1960s, as the Aswan High Dam was being constructed, the rising waters of the Nile threatened to submerge the temples. An unprecedented international rescue effort, coordinated by UNESCO, saw the massive structures painstakingly dismantled, moved piece by piece, and reassembled on higher ground about 65 meters above and 200 meters northwest of their original location. This incredible feat of engineering preserved these invaluable monuments for future generations, ensuring their continued presence on the landscape overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Nasser.
