Great Zimbabwe is an ancient city located in the southeastern hills of Zimbabwe. These impressive stone structures were built between the 11th and 15th centuries by ancestors of the Shona people who still live in Zimbabwe today. The ruins, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, cover a vast area and are divided into three main groups: the Hill Complex, the Great Enclosure, and the Valley Ruins. The most substantial of these is the Great Enclosure, known for its massive walls, some reaching up to 36 feet high.
