Rolduc's winemaking tradition dates back to the 12th century. In 1106, Embrico von Mayschoss and his family, along with his property, joined the fledgling monastic community. His property also included vineyards in Mayschoss in the Ahr Valley. The yields from these vineyards provided important income for the abbey. A vineyard was also established at the abbey in the 12th century, but it was abandoned during the French period. The abbey also lost its vineyards on the Ahr River during this period.
