The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is an Orthodox church within the ruins of the Komotini Fortress, dating back to 1800. It is believed to have been built on top of an older Byzantine church dating back to 1548. A major renovation began in 2020 and was completed in March 2024. The architectural style differs markedly from typical Orthodox churches.
