Road Cycling Highlight
The Rhine ferry Altrip-Mannheim connects the right bank of the Rhine, industrialized Mannheim district Neckarau with the left bank of the Rhine Altrip and the recreation area Blue Adriatic.
The ferry from Altrip is first mentioned in writing in 1262. 1891 the first yaw ferry was acquired, which crossed the river by means of a longitudinal rope. Due to the increasing shipping traffic, however, this method was replaced by a ferry with its own engine. The ferry currently in operation provides since then during the day all year round its service. Vehicles are transported up to a single weight of 16t, as well as two-wheelers and pedestrians. From Monday to Friday, she will also take the regional bus line 98. In 2012, the ferry was extended by seven meters and from about 2020, a technically improved ship is to be used. Occasionally, the water level of the Rhine represents a degree of uncertainty. For example, the ferry had to be stopped from mid-October 2018 for almost one and a half months because of low water, which temporarily fell below the historically lowest level of 92 cm (28/09/03) at the level Mannheim ,
The Rhine ferry Altrip is in operation year-round - there is no winter break !. If the shipping traffic permits, the Rhine ferry Altrip will always leave at the landing pier Mannheim every fifteen minutes.
