The Säfsjö shoe factory went bankrupt after World War II. The reasons were a shortage of materials and increased shoe imports from abroad.
Herman Elfström was another shoemaker in Sävsjö who operated a shoe factory until the 1980s. After Herman Elfström completed his factory, it remained unused until the 2000s. Sävsjö Hembygdsförening purchased the workshop equipment and relocated everything to the old pigpen in the Eksjöhovgård area in 2007.
