In the Shuya district there is an archaeological site called "Ivanovo Gorodishche" - a large settlement of representatives of the Proto-Finnic culture of the 6th-5th centuries BC, as well as a Meryan settlement of the 1st-2nd centuries AD. In addition, in the 5th - 4th centuries BC, the Dyakovo culture lived here - sedentary farmers and cattle breeders. The settlement was located on a steep slope at the confluence of a small river flowing out of a lake into the Teza River (currently the lake has turned into a swamp, the river is missing) and was protected by defensive structures (ramparts). Not far from the settlement, also on a hill, there was a village, not protected by ramparts, the inhabitants of which took refuge in the settlement in case of danger.
