Kasteel De Bockenhof (also De Bockhof, Obbendorf and Huis Haasdal), is a restored castle farm that functions as a holiday home (and for events).

The castle farm, which is located in the hamlet of Groot Haasdal (as the nearby wooden hare makes clear), has quite a past.

The core of the national monument dates from the 17th century. The square tower with tent roof and dome dates back to 1677 when it was built by a certain Arnoldus Godefridus von Bock. It was also then that the house and southern and eastern parts of the building were built.

There must have been a building here before that, because barrel vaults have been preserved under the barn. Some think that this must have been the original seat of the van Hafkesdael family.

De Bockhof is therefore named after the von Bock family, who originally came from Aachen and had several castles.

In 1729, the building partly came into the hands of Peter Willem Frederik von Bock. He received the mansion while his sister Anna received the court. When Peter died childless, everything went to Anna Maria von Bock who was married to a tenant farmer, Nicolaes Somija. They had 9 children and with that the entire complex was immediately fragmented. In 1796, Maria Somija married a certain Thomas Hondts who became mayor of Schimmert during the French occupation. In 1848, it belonged to owner-farmer Nicolaas Voncken and his wife Maria Ida Loyens who had some renovations carried out, of which a facade stone still reminds us. Their sons leased the house and land. In 1942 there was a large damage caused by a lightning strike and in 1959 the Stassen family bought the property which was restored with the help of Monumentenzorg from 1959 to 1964.

The white painted house has two brick floors, with bluestone door and window frames and the previously mentioned turret.

The rectangular castle courtyard is partly built with marl. At the front on the street side there are two large round arch gates. There is also a statue of Jesus hanging on the facade. The side of the barn complex of the farm on the Billich is provided with bacon layers.
