You'll journey through beautiful, quiet canyons and forests over approximately 14-15 miles, gaining around 3,800 ft to reach the very high altitude pass near 9,300 ft. Be prepared for a significant test, especially after the initial gentle miles; this southern approach features sustained steep sections averaging nearly 9% for over 3 miles, with ramps exceeding 11%. Enjoy the scenic mountain views and perhaps taking a short detour to see the unique Devil's Kitchen geological area.
