    Road cycling

Climbing Highway 89A over Mingus Mountain from the Verde Valley side delivers a truly spectacular and demanding ascent, famous for its winding passage near the historic cliff-side town of Jerome and breathtaking panoramic views across the valley towards Sedona's red rocks. While the average gradient is around 5-6%, the true test lies in the relentless series of tight, steep switchbacks, especially above and below Jerome, with sustained pitches frequently pushing 10-15% or more. This iconic climb will see you journey from the Verde Valley's warmth into cooler pine forests high on the mountain.
