The church, which was probably built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century, was the village church of the village of Dannenfeld, which later became a deserted village. The church was destroyed in 1343 during a war between Duke Otto of Brunswick and Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian.

Impressive remains of the church tower, which was originally located west of the nave, still remain today. The remains of the western, southern and northern walls of the tower stand at the western end of Immekath in front of the village cemetery.
