As you climb the La Sal Mountain Loop Road from the iconic red-rock landscape of Castle Valley you'll embark on a truly epic ascent, transitioning dramatically into a contrasting high-alpine world. Prepare for a very long and demanding journey over approximately 18-20 miles, gaining a massive 5,300ft as you climb towards the loop's high points, eventually reaching over 10,000ft elevation. The climb averages around 5-6% but you'll tackle sustained steep sections that push upwards of 8-10%, potentially12% or more in places. Along the route you'll enjoy breathtaking views back over Castle Valley and into the La Sal peaks.
