On Easter, March 24, 1913, an international 50-km race took place near Zlaté návrší. It began in beautiful weather (the competitors were only lightly dressed), but as the race progressed, the temperature dropped significantly and a snowstorm developed. The race had to be canceled, and all participants except Bohumil Hanč were stopped. Hanč's friend, skier Václav Vrbata, came to his aid. He found him exhausted and frozen and gave him the upper part of his clothing. Both, however, died in a violent snowstorm. (Wikipedia)
