Pastor Christoph März painted the St. Apollonia Chapel in Wawern from 1929 to 1931. This chapel is dedicated to the 14 Holy Helpers in Need.

The new building, which was constructed by the village community with the special involvement of the Schütz family, was largely the initiative of Johann Schütz, the dean of Wiebelskirchen, a native of Wawern who had built the large Trinity Church there years earlier and commissioned the Eschfeld painter-pastor to paint it. It was therefore only fitting that Christoph März was also commissioned to decorate the new Wawern chapel.

Eschfeld pastor Christoph März began painting the chapel in the same year of its construction. The paintings on the side walls are primarily dedicated to the Holy Helpers and patron saints. The remaining depictions depict scenes from the life of Jesus and from salvation history. Many medallion-like images make instructive references to the apostles and the evangelists.
