Climbing Juniper Pass westwards on Squaw Pass Road, approaching from the Upper Bear Creek Road area near Evergreen/Bergen Park, is a long, high-altitude ascent into the Colorado Rockies renowned for its steady gradient. Settle in for a very sustained 15 mile climb, gaining over 3300ft to reach the 11,140ft (3395m) pass, averaging a remarkably consistent 4-5% with maximum ramps rarely exceeding ~8%. Along the way you'll encounter beautiful pine and aspen forests (stunning in fall), with panoramic views opening up as you gain elevation. Be sure to bring layers, be self-sufficient and always check access before attempting this climb.
