The military cemetery of the Great War is located northwest of the village of Gorjansko, in the immediate vicinity of the civil cemetery. The cemetery is the burial place of Austro-Hungarian soldiers who died in the nearby hospital. The monumental part of the cemetery was completed during the conflict, in July 1916. The cemetery has retained its original structure, but the tripartite stone crosses and stone slabs with names on the common graves are no longer there. According to data from the Italian authorities who excavated the war cemeteries in the 1930s, 6,015 soldiers are buried here. The military cemetery in Gorjansko is the largest Austro-Hungarian military cemetery of the Great War on Slovenian soil. It is very well preserved.
The greatest number of military operations took place on the Isonzo Front, which resulted in a large number of victims.
