The village of Stary Pokrov, formerly known as Pokrovsky Pogost, is one of the oldest settlements in the territory of the modern Orekhovo-Zuevsky district.
The tax books of the patriarchal Senezh volost of the early 17th century mention a wooden church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in this area at the pogost.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the first wooden church was built here in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God. In 1741, it burned down. A new wooden church, built shortly after the fire, stood in the village until 1796, when it was moved to the "Pashneva wasteland". A new wooden building appeared in its place.
The construction of the currently existing five-domed stone church with a bell tower began in 1845. In 1851, the northern aisle of the church was consecrated in honor of the Akhtyrskaya Icon of the Mother of God. The southern aisle was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The main altar of the church was consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God in 1862.
