The Museum of History and History of St. Marien, which has been used as a museum since 1975, is dedicated to the life and work of the preacher and reformer Thomas Müntzer, who proclaimed his ideas in the Free Imperial City of Mühlhausen in 1524/25 with the Müntzergedenkstätte on 100 square meters of exhibition space. In addition, the exhibition explains his tense relationship with Martin Luther and also provides information about the survival of Müntzer in the culture of remembrance, especially in the GDR. In addition, the permanent exhibition informs about the building history of the church with the highest tower of Thuringia as well as historical stonemasonry.
