Hiking Highlight
Recommended by Sue
Whiskey Run Beach is a fantastic spot for rock hounding and hiking, a popular spot for surfers and windsurfers because of its consistent waves and open space. The beach gained prominence during the mid-1800s gold rush and gets its name from local stories suggesting that miners and settlers transported whiskey barrels down the creek to the beach— a hot commodity during the gold rush era. At low tide, you can walk north to Five Mile Point, a beautiful rocky section of the beach. This beach is a perfect, quiet spot away from the more crowded surf locations in the area, and a great place to explore.
