Burgsinn has around 3,000 inhabitants on an area of around 52 km². It was first mentioned in a document in 1001. At the beginning of the 14th century the community belonged to the property of the Bishop of Würzburg. Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian granted the community market rights in 1334.

The "Old Castle", located in the middle of Burgsinn, is a typical moated castle. A moat that is still filled with water today, however, is rare! With the huge tower, the moated castle still characterizes the townscape of Burgsinn today.
