The City of Edmonton began planning a Buena Vista Park in 1957 and purchased the land in 1959. This 80.33-ha. park is located in the Laurier Heights neighbourhood. Buena Vista Park is located on the north bank of the river, adjacent to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park and Hawrelak Park. Buena Vista means “beautiful view” in Spanish and is home to a large off-leash area and numerous multi-use trails. It is also home to Yorath House, the City's newest rental facility, which is available for year-round bookings.

Buena Vista Park offers well-maintained, lakeside trails that explore this 66-hectare park along the North Saskatchewan River. Trails here pass through thick forests, over boardwalks, and through grassy open areas. The park has a large off-leash area, park benches, and a porta-potty in the main parking lot. There is a lot of free parking, and it's a family-friendly destination.
