Starting at the Kern River, the road ascends steadily along a rugged ridge, gradually transitioning from desert-like conditions to more alpine terrain as you near the top. With limited shade, no water along the route, and a relentless grade, this isolated challenge demands both physical endurance and mental toughness, ending just shy of the 9,000-foot mark.
