The cemetery is located in the heart of the Vimy Memorial, a National Historic Site of Canada, just a few meters from the memorial. Most were killed on April 9, 1917, the day Vimy Ridge was stormed.
Canadian Cemetery No. 2 is the final resting place of 2,965 men, including 2,241 British, 695 Canadians, 19 Australians, 7 New Zealanders, 2 South Africans, and one Indian. Nearly 70% of the graves are unknown. Only this inscription appears on the headstones of these unknowns: "their glory must not be effaced."
