The Uina Gorge is one of the top highlights on many Transalp routes.

Although the path into the Vinschgau valley to South Tyrol, which is spectacularly built into the rock, is part of the legacy of the former smugglers in many travel guides and stories, the trail, which was laid out over a hundred years ago, is a product of a tourism initiative at the time.

The distance on which you will "bump" the bike is around 250 meters in altitude and two kilometers. On the right and left there are deep gray rock walls. The brook rushes in the gorge. Cold water drips from rock overhangs and into the two short tunnels carved into the mountain. A fascinating atmosphere that is absorbed by both hikers and bikers. The narrow path requires caution and a respectful cooperation.

If you want to find out about the condition of the path or the situation after previous snowfalls, it is best to call the Sesvennahütte or the Alp Uina Dadaint. The hosts are helpful and of course look forward to your visit.

You have the most fun when you drive the gorge from South Tyrol towards the Engadin. This allows you to enjoy the descent from the Schlinigpass to the beginning of the Felsenweg more.

At a stop in the hamlet Uina Dadaint you can enjoy the great panorama and you could think every moment Heidi and Peter comes around the corner.

Breathtaking gorge - a must-have for every AlpenXer. Please push the bike exactly as prescribed. Fairly strenuous ascent to the break on the alpine pasture of Uina Dadaint. Then there's a cappuccino and off you go carrying and pushing - but it's worth it. What a great route ...

We started in Schlinig, so uphill through the Uina gorge (Schlinig - Burgeis - Nauders - Norbertshoehe - Martina - Sur En - Uina Gorge - Schlinig), that was then almost 75 km, almost 2,000 meters in altitude and just over 6 hours pure driving time 😅

Here is an excerpt from the internet:)

    CHARACTER:
If you are traveling in the region, you should definitely visit Uina Gorge once you have a good physical condition. This legendary gorge is not only well-known to alpine cross-country skiers, but is also considered a day trip from Nauders as an absolute biker highlight.

Another tip as a day tour by Harry Ploner, bike visionary and owner of the Hotel BikeHotel Central in Nauders:

"Alpine crossers always drive this tour from north to south and carry / push up through the canyon, so it is advisable to take the Uina gorge as a day trip in the opposite direction - as described here, then the trail on the high plateau is perfect to drive and downhill Easier to push. "

    TOUR DATES:
    Travel time: 08:00:00
    Altitude difference: 2025m

Whether the tour can be mastered better through the ravine is uncertain - in no case for someone who is not 100% free from giddiness!

The absolute highlight of our Alpine crossing in the summer of 2016 was the route through the Uina gorge on the 4th day. The section is already very beautiful in the lower part, and the further you go up, the more spectacular it gets. Although the MTB must be pushed over long distances, but the fun factor is always given.

The Ulina Gorge is an absolute highlight for hikers and cyclists. Where cyclists have to push. The push is worthwhile, however, since after surviving gorge hike beautiful trails for biking.

The Uina gorge should be run from Schlinig to Sur En - and not around. The gradient is much better in this direction.

Incredibly impressive nature experience! Was there in 2013 under a transalp. But who believes that sitting on the MTB to pass the tube is tired of life. There have been deadly accidents here!

A must for MTB this is an experience.
If you go through Switzerland 🇨🇭 it is much more exhausting.
If you go through Italy 🇮🇹 it is not so strenuous.

A fantastic path leads through the Uina Gorge. Beaten into the rock by smugglers. A real masterpiece.
