The giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), also known as the sequoia tree, is the largest tree on Earth. This conifer, up to 80 m tall with a conical crown, is green all year round. In nature, it occurs only at altitudes between 1500 and 2500 m above sea level, on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada in California. However, in Europe it was previously widely planted as an ornamental tree in parks.
