Franz Ferdinand and his wife are buried in the family crypt of Artstetten Castle. The heir to the throne and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. The estate includes the family crypt, built in 1909. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie found their final resting place there. They were buried on July 4, 1914.
