In the middle of the 2nd century AD, the Romans built the Trennfurt fort as part of the Main Limes. In 1751 a Roman sacrificial altar was found in Trennfurt, which is now walled in in the entrance area of the "Sankt Maria Magdalena" Church in Trennfurt. According to the inscription, the consecration stone was donated to the gods Jupiter, Silvanus and the goddess Diana in the year 212 (according to the Christian calendar) by a lumberjack squad of the 22nd Legion stationed in Mainz.
