The replica of the historic mission is open Thursday-Monday 10-4.

Mission Santa Cruz was founded by two Spanish Padres at the foot of the hill of today's church in 1791. It was washed away with the winter floods and rebuilt the following year on the hill. This second mission was destroyed by earthquakes in 1840 and 1857. The bells were saved and transferred to the San Francisco mission, the statues of holy men are now in the Carmel mission, and a few surviving pieces can be seen in today's church. For 30 years a temporary wooden church was used, until today's gothic style church was built in 1889 a few hundred yards away ( komoot.com/highlight/744448 ). The ruins of the original second mission crumbled away until in 1931 a replica in about half size was built that serves as the museum and galleria gift shop today. holycrosssantacruz.com/mission-santa-cruz/history-of-mission-santa-cruz
