One of the toughest in the US!
The climb starts at Hansen and Pulehu Road on rough pavement with heavy traffic. There is no shoulder until a short section on Kula Highway (37).
The first 4 miles are shallow but heat and wind add difficulty. At mile 7, stay right at the fork to continue on Pulehu Road. Steep rollers up to 15% follow before reaching Kula Highway at mile 11, where the grade eases to 5–7%. After Harold Rice Park, turn left onto Lower Kula Road, then right onto Waipoli Road for the final ascent.
