The village of Slobodische is located in the Meshchera Lowland on the left bank of the Guslitsa River, a left tributary of the Nerskaya. The area where the village is located has long been called "Guslitsy". At the end of the 17th century, after the Streltsy riots, the Streltsy and boyars, persecuted for their old faith, fled to the Guslitsky forests and swamps, and along with them the area began to be populated by other Old Believers. According to legend, a representative of an ancient princely family, the Old Believer Bolkhovskaya, once hid in Slobodische. The famous Old Believer family of merchants and philanthropists, the Rakhmanovs, comes from Slobodische. The now two-story Old Believer Kazan Church in the village was built in 1882.
