Located on a secluded hill, Alcazaba Castle is one of the most important Andalusian monumental and archaeological sites on the Iberian Peninsula. Its almost thousand years of history have allowed to know the evolution of civil and military architecture during the Arab domination of Al-Andalus.

The wall of Cerro de San Cristóbal, more than three meters wide and five meters high, forms an enclosure around the Alcazaba. The whole maintains a direct link with the city of Almeria, absolutely unique both physically and visually, causing the visitor a force of extraordinary magnitude. The Alcazaba Castle and Cerro de San Cristóbal are inseparably linked to the modern city and to the sea.

The Alcazaba de Almería is a former Moorish fortress on a hill above the city. Construction of the second largest alcazaba in Spain began in 955 on the orders of Caliph Abd al-Rahman III and ended in the 11th century.

The view from the Alcazaba over the city and the bay is exceptional. In turn, the Alcazaba is visible from the sea up to 55 kilometres from the coast on clear days.
